AEMA Applauds Funding for Perpetua Resources

Spokane Valley, WA – Mark Compton, Executive Director of the American Exploration & Mining Association, issued the following statement responding to today’s announcement from Perpetua Resources that the Stibnite Project will receive up to $24.8 million in funding from the Department of Defense, to support environmental and engineering studies for the project.
“AEMA applauds today’s announcement that Perpetua resources is receiving financial support through the Defense Production Act to develop antimony in Idaho. It is imperative that the U.S. decrease our dangerous reliance on foreign countries for minerals and metals needed for our economic and national security,” said AEMA Executive Director Mark Compton. “We are pleased that the Department of Defense recognizes that we can be more self-reliant by safely and responsibly mining these strategic materials here at home.”
Antimony is currently listed as a critical mineral on the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) critical minerals list, and one of the main reasons is that, despite its important uses, no antimony is currently produced in the United States.
